Press Release Body = Australian software developer, Thinc Technology, has challenged
the dominance of the IT majors with a ground-breaking package of email and office
software aimed directly at the small and medium enterprise (SME) market.

The Brisbane-based company today launched a package of new products that includes
free* email and calendar software, and an email storage and retrieval system priced
at a fraction of the cost of packages currently available to the big corporate
market.

"The small and medium enterprise market has been neglected by the IT industry when
it comes to email and information management," Thinc Technology Managing Director,
Mr Bill Elston, said today.

"Thinc Technology identified this niche in the global market and has filled it with
extremely cost effective products that can be easily applied by any small business,
with no training required," he said.

"We have tailor-made software to meet the demands of the modern business market
place and incorporated such features as the ability to SMS from a personal or laptop
computer rather than the present cumbersome approach of using a mobile phone keypad.

"Thinc Technology's email storage system also includes an extremely fast and
effective search function which places it at the forefront of the software required
to meet new legal requirements for the storage and retrieval of emails in original
form."

Software started from first principles

Thinc Technology Chief Executive Officer and senior developer, Mr Sean Russell, said
he "returned to first principles to build the platform required for Thinc
Technology's suite of products".

"In order to be able to offer new elements like keyboarding SMS messages, and an
easily operated but sophisticated email storage and retrieval system, we decided the
best approach was to design an entirely new mail system, or gateway, to support it,"
Mr Russell said.

"This way, we have ensured complete compatibility with existing mail systems like
Outlook Express and produced software that operates four times faster than other
products," he said.

"We have been privately trialling our software with 20 SMEs in Brisbane for more
than a year and now have over 10,000 users, which is a strong platform for future
growth."

The Thinc Technology packages include:
. Thinc-Mail: a new email system to replace Microsoft's Outlook or Outlook Express
and which is completely compatible with existing mail systems, can send SMS
messages, and can share common address books.
. Thinc-Time: an office and personal calendar involving only a single screen that
allows real time changes, multiple users, and does not require a dedicated server.
. Thinc-Server: an alternate replacement to a Microsoft Exchange/Outlook solution.
Thinc-Server allows centrally shared and stored data of emails, shared calendars and
email address books on a local network.
. Thinc-Store: an innovative email storage-retrieval system that has an advanced
search capability, and meets tough new Australian legal and compliance standards at
a fraction of the cost of competing products. Thinc-Store is purchased and managed
by SME's themselves.
. Thinc-Store Enterprise: comprises the same software as Thinc-Store but the email
storage and archiving service is provided by Thinc Technology for an annual fee.

Mr Russell said Thinc Technology was offering users a "turn key" package, which
provided all the key communication and time management tools needed by SMEs.

"Small business people simply do not have the time to spend setting up complex new
software systems," Mr Russell said.

"So we designed the Thinc Technology products as a complete package that can be
downloaded from a dedicated website and installed with a minimum of fuss.

"There is no training required and someone can have our system in place and be back
to business in a matter of minutes.

"All existing email address books and records are readily transferable to
Thinc-Mail, so small businesses can have a seamless transition to a very cost
effective system that offers a range of advantages."

Big benefits for small business

Mr Ben Whitehouse, the Managing Director of Brisbane-based BBW Accountants, one of
the trial participants, cites the speed of keyboarding SMS messages; the advantage
of a single email address book in large offices, and the "searchability" of the
email storage software, as particular strengths of the Thinc Technology package.

"There are definitely productivity gains and significant savings for SMEs using the
Thinc Technology software, " Mr Whitehouse said.

* The Thinc-Mail and Thinc-Time products are offered free to the first three users
in an enterprise, after which the package retails for $130 for a ten-user site
license.
Thinc-Store is priced at $699.Thinc-Server is priced at $750 for up to 50 users.
Thinc-Store Enterprise, which includes Thinc Technology providing the email storage
and archiving service, costs $2,700 per year.
